Computer generated checks are here!

I went "live" with the new software on January 1st.  There were some bugs that had to be worked out (more on that in a later post) but everything is going smoothly now.  I wanted to wait until after the County had its mandatory, every 4 year, bank bid process in March before ordering the checks I could use with the new software.  I didn't want to be wasteful if we were going to change banks.  Just as soon as that process was complete I ordered the new checks and they came right away so I was able to start generating computerized checks instead of handwriting the checks.  The first checks I produced were for the Collector's office.  I was, and still am, so very excited.  This is a BIG step in the right direction for Monroe County.

Monroe City Singers

This afternoon we drove up to Monroe City to listen to a choral concert by the Monroe City Singers.  They did a great job and it was a really nice way to spend a rainy afternoon.  I knew Judge and Kathleen Wilson were in the group but I did not know my friend Harold Johannaber as well as Charlie and Jane Callis were in the group too.  We went in spite of not a lot of sleep as we were up in the wee hours of the morning when a couple of hail storms went through.  Maybe tonight will be better but it's not looking like it.  Hope everyone is safe and sound and out of Mother Nature's way.

First speaking engagement

All of the Democratic candidates spoke at the Democrat meeting Tuesday evening. I took the opportunity to again thank the Democratic Central Committee for nominating me for the position of Treausrer last January. I am very grateful that they all saw the potential in me to run and improve the Treausrer's office. I also reminded everyone of the promises I made when campaigning last time and the fact that I kept all of my promises. My speech was short and to the point. Glad the first speaking event is over, but there are many more to come. Yikes! Powell for Treasurer 2012

Here we go again!!!

To those that supported me during my last election, I truly appreciated it. I had to work a little harder for the job of Treasurer, but it was definately worth it. I have been a busy little bee for the last 11 months getting the office organized the way I prefer to have it set up and most importantly computerizing the Treasurer's Office. When I ran for this office I tried to let everybody know that I was prepared for this challenge and although it has not been easy, I have slowly but surely moved the office into the 21st century. There is still much work to be done and more improvements on the way. I believe there is always room for improvement. Rick and I have also been very busy the last 11 months going to all of the church dinners and donating to the local organizations that have fundraisers, bake sales, etc. We feel very strongly about supporting our community. What a great day!

Today we went to Wentzville for grandson Kyle's 17th birthday party. He is such a good kid. It was really good family time and everyone was able to make it to the party. We talked campaign and they had a lot of encouraging things to say. It is always wonderful to have a good family day. I feel so very blessed. Powell for Treasurer 2012

People want my signs

My supporters have been asking for signs to put in their yards and at their businesses, but I don't like anyone having to mow around my signs. It makes me feel really guilty. I think to myself, "Do they cuss me every time they have to move it, trim arountd it, etc.?" They say they don't mind, but months and months, no. I know that this is a part of campaigning, it's this part that bothers me the most. Hopefully I can hold off putting out signs for at least another month.

Oh, and thank goodness tomorrow's Friday!

The weekend was busy was usual.

We had friends from St. Louis visit for the weekend. They brough their new puppy, Scooter, with them. He really enjoyed the farm. We brought our friends to the FBLA fundraiser breakfast on Saturday morning. Afterwards, I spent the afternoon wiping down my signs while our company fished. I have one-hundred signs left from the last election. Got them all cleaned up. On Sunday we went to church and then to the fundraiser breakfast for Monroe City Community Betterment. It was a brunch with all the fixins and very good. Tom Shiveley, State Rep., was there with his lovely wife. It was very nice to talk with him again. He is also campaigning this year. I then spent the afternoon putting the wires into my signs so I am all ready to go when sign time comes. I lead such an exciting life, but I am well fed. :-)

Here we go again...

..although I hope to be more successful this time. I learned a lot during my first campaign which will help me tremendously the second time around. My supporters are already rallying around me and I am very grateful for them. I will be bringing you up-to-date on the last 12 months and how things are going on the job as well as along the campaign trail. I welcome everyone to join me on this new adventure!
